- Summary
- One cold night in 1925 Mollie and Annemarie Kenny escape from the Irish village where they have suffered shocking abuse at the hands of their doctor father. Mollie takes her traumatised younger sister to Liverpool where they will board a ship for New York, but a cruel twist of fate separates the girls, leaving Mollie stranded in Liverpool. Their subsequent lives could not be more different - Annemarie finds her fortune on Broadway, while Mollie, devastated by guilt and grief, eventually settles down in Liverpool. The outbreak of World War II separates many people, but it can also bring people together
