- Summary
- Sir David Attenborough, the godfather of natural history TV has introduced generations to the wonderful world of wildlife. Beyond natural history he's had a huge influence as a broadcaster since he became controller of BBC2 in 1952. Born in London in 1926, Attenborough collected fossils as a child and gained a Natural Science degree from Cambridge. Since the launch of his famous Zoo Quest series in 1954 through to the recent Planet Earth, he has surveyed almost every aspect of life on earth. David Attenborough's involvement in programme making has taken him to all corners of the world. From his first trips abroad he accumulated souvenirs and eventually became a serious collector of tribal art. Immediately after resigning from his job as Director of Programmes, he suggested that there was room on the television for totem poles and masks as well as old master paintings. Tribal Eye was commissioned and David's resulting series took viewers to exciting places, showing them intriguing and wonderful cultures and artefacts. In the series Attenborough visits a cliff-dwelling tribe in the Mali desert, investigates the sadly vanishing culture of the North West American Indian tribes, explores the wealth and culture of the Aztecs and Incas of Central and South America, and looks at the remarkable sculptures created by the bush people in the New Hebrides. Extras include, The Miracle of Bali ? 3 x 50 minute episodes with an insight into Bali's people's life's and their varied art culture
