Summary
To the locals who've been waking to the sight of a middle-aged man dragging a tyre around Clovelly, do not be alarmed - it's just Pat Farmer preparing for a 21,000km run. The former federal member for Macarthur and ultra-marathon runner plans to jog from the North Pole to the South Pole starting in March next year. The Clovelly resident will travel at an average of 80km a day through 14 countries on his 11-month journey to raise $100 million for the Red Cross and its work providing water and clean sanitary conditions in Third World countries. Mr Farmer said he had been thinking of the mammoth trek ever since completing his 15,000km Centenary of Federation run around Australia in 1999
