Hashude was an experimental housing institution set up in Bremen, Germany in 1936 by the Nazi authorities. This author examines how Hashude was used to house 'asocial individuals' such as gypsies, the homeless, and 'inferior' families. Residents of the estate lived and worked in regulated conditions and were strictly supervised and observed. The author concludes tht while Hashude was only operational foe a short time it represented a major policy step towards more racial answers to the 'asocial problem' including the concentration camp and the 'final solution'.
