Discussses the link between art and politics in Australia in the 1990s with specific reference to the impact of feminism, which has provided women artists with a framework for the exploration of ideas. Examines the difference between indivdual artistic expression, which has recently come to the fore, and the community based artwork that was prevalent in the 1970s/ early 1980s, such as trade union banners and silkscreen posters.
