Summary
Summary : On Sunday, 13 May 1787, 11 small ships carrying 1,420 people set sail from Portsmouth, England on an epic voyage of around 21,000kms and founded the nation we call "Australia". On Friday 13 May 2016, 229 years later, a unique First Fleeters Memorial was officially opened by the NSW Minister for the Environment, the Minister for Heritage, and the Assistant Minister for Planning, The Hon. Mark Speakman SC MP. The location of the First Fleeters memorial is a place of history. A place of significance to the Aboriginal Community. This is a place of significance as the Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park overlooks Botany Bay. A Bay that in 1770 and 1788 became the stepping stones for Australia’s modern history
