Summary
The Greens candidate for Coogee, Sue Doran, has called on the NSW Government to halt "The Village Coogee" development until a flood-risk assessment is completed. The flood-risk assessment is part of new NSW Government guidelines, which focus on the impact of sea level rise when planning for the NSW coast's expected 600,000 new residents by 2036. They estimate a 40cm sea level rise by 2050 and 90cm by 2100. Randwick Council has started a process for conducting flood- risk assessment for the Coogee foreshore area which is expected to be complete by 2012. "The Government's new template for local environment plans states the key objective is to provide for the protection of the coastal environment for future generations through promoting sustainable development, " Ms Doran said. Ms Doran said the planned Coogee Bay Hotel development on the Coogee foreshore should be subject to the new sea level guidelines
